Running (Officially) Now for Mayor
I wasn’t 100% sure when I filed if I wanted to run for commissioner or mayor yet, although you can read my reasoning for why I chose the latter in another blog post on here about why I’m running. The same petition though is used for commissioner and mayoral races.
The confusion has now been eliminated, however, and I am officially running for mayor. My treasurer is my friend and neighbor, Jack Aicher, and my committee is called Friends of Gem City Dudeist Priest Archie Magee.
But, I do want to talk for a minute about how difficult it is to run for Dayton city commissioner. The Dayton democrat establishment has made it difficult on purpose, and that is something that should be changed. In order to run you have to have five people on your committee, something that is unique to Dayton. You also have to get 500 valid signatures. My understanding is that if you wanted to run for county commissioner, that number would only be 50. That is absurd. It is clearly a blatant attempt to stifle competition and keep people without the resources needed to get that many signatures out of the race.
What that means is I’m really going to need your help to get on the ballot, and to do that, I’m going to need folks helping me gather signatures, and I would love for you to reach out to me by whatever method you prefer and let me know if you would like to help. You can email me (gemcitydudeistpriest@gmail.com) or call me or text me (513-400-3538) or message me through Facebook, find me on TikTok (while it lasts… I'm also on Lemon8), or maybe stop by our house sometime while we sit out on our front porch with our friends and neighbors, because I will always want to hear from you. You are who I represent and want to empower so that we can run this city ourselves, without the current, corrupt, ruling, political class. The deadline is in March, so time is of the essence.
I am also in the process of working out a time to have a facilitated discussion about how we can make Dayton’s democracy more participatory and collaborative, and I will also collect signatures at that event in the future. But, if you would like to sign now, You can visit my local corner store, Sammy‘s, and ask for my friend Vibhav. He works there from 8 AM to 4 PM on Tuesdays through Fridays, so if you would like to just stop in and sign then all you need to do is ask for my petition, sign your name, and then print your name next to it or above it. Be sure not to forget to include your street and number of your address, and include the date you signed. You do not need to worry about ward or precinct numbers.
This campaign is truly a grassroots one, and whether or not I get on the ballot will depend on the help of others who believe that it’s time for a change, so please reach out to me and I will coordinate with you a way to get your signature one way or another! I am happy to come to you.
And if you would like to collect signatures for me, please let me know, and I will drop off a sheet for you!
Together, we can make change happen here in Dayton.
I’m Archie Magee and I approve this message.
